I met Bernie in the late seventies when we both worked for U of M Campus Security! I quickly learned that Bernie was a unique human being, truly his own person, never swayed by the opinions of others, steadfast in his convictions,... his own man! Bernie was that friend that was honest, told you the truth as he saw it, gave you an unvarnished opinion when you asked for it, but was still your friend if you saw things differently! I last saw Bernie in the early 80's when he was in Jackson, Michigan for a short stay! I had always wanted to go to Worcester for a surprise visit with Bernie! Just never made it there,... my loss, my regret!

What does a person say? Bernie was fun, grouchy, intelligent, sweet, and lovable. He was kind and considerate, and appreciated people. I loved baking for him and teasing him. His wit and charm will be missed. I'm honored to have known him even a little bit.
