I first started talking to "Jake" over Ham Radio back in 1996 with the "NY Mobster", Phil. We have been making contacts ever since. He and Phil helped me a lot in learning about 10-10. I also had the pleasure to meet him in Worster, MA at one of our Conventions. I was shocked to hear of his passing as were most Paperchasers. My deepest sympathies and condolences to his Family. I firmly believe he is in a much nicer and peaceful place now.

Jake was one fine person. He and I started talking when I lived in HI and we continued when I moved to KY. He kept me informed about the kids as the years went on. Because the band conditions had been so poor we had been emailing over the holidays. He was keeping me informed about his daughter's trip. He was so proud of his family. He will also be missed by his "ham" friends. I am glad I had the chance to meet Jake at the 10-10 convention in MA. May he rest in peace! Sincerely, Pat (KH6OE)

I was very saddened to read that you died. I know how hard you fought to live and how hard I fought to save you. I'm glad I was able to be with you and hold your hand when you were so ill. I was so impressed with your strength. To your family-my deepest sympathies. I have been a nurse for over 17 years and it's not often that a family or situation touches my life like yours did. I never met Jake in person, but his voice made him unmistakable. Spoke to him many times in 1996 when I was working in Idaho. Jake was a self-effacing radio person who possessed patience and politeness. He will be unforgettable to me. I was not surprised to learn from the obit that Jake was a teacher. My condolences to his immediate family and friends. Respectfully, Paul Leonard, KD1TH
