Obituary of Edmond Eberhardt

Edmond Edwin Eberhardt, known to all as Eddie, passed away peacefully at the age of 93 at home in North Hollywood on January 17, 2006 with family members inattendance. On May 17, 1912 Eddie was born to a large family of 6 brothers and 4 sisters, in Gackle, North Dakota to Frederick and Elisabeth Eberhardt after their immigration from Europe. He was preceded in death by all 10 of his siblings. Service in the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Depression opened his world. As young newlyweds, he and his wife, Mertis, moved to start their family in Lodi, California. Eddie had long and successful careers: as a grocer at the Home Market in Lodi; delivery driver and supervisor at Snow White Bakery in Stockton; co-owner with his brother Jimmy of the Eberhardt Community Market in North Hollywood then a stint as grounds Marshall for the Studio City Golf Course. He was active in his community, serving two terms as Governor of the Lodi Moose Lodge. He is remembered by his friends, co-workers, and customers as energetic and gregarious. His open, generous manner and humor lead the way to many friendships. He was well respected and positively impressed all the lives he touched. Eddie Eberhardt is survived by three daughters: Bonnie Smith of LaCanada, CA; JoAnn Breuer and her husband Norman of North Hollywood, CA; Jacqueline King and her husband William of Lodi CA and a son, Dennis Eberhardt and his wife Laila of Roseburg, OR. He counted himself blessed and loved to be surrounded by his large family that includes 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, all of whom he was able to know and love and who visited and loved him in return. They affectionately referred to him as "Pow Pow." Mertis M. Eberhardt, his wife of 47 years preceded him in death in 1983 as well as a son-in-law, James Smith in 1985. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the extraordinary care and caring given to Mr. Eberhardt by Dr. Francesco Federico of Burbank and Trinitycare Hospice of Mission Hills, California. Friends and family are invited to the Lodi Funeral Home for visitation on Thursday January 26, 2006. Services will be held the next day, Friday January 27, 2006 at 12:00 noon at the Lodi Funeral Home. Internment next to Mertis at the Cherokee Memorial Park Cemetery will follow the service. Services will be officiated by Scott Hubbard of Lodis Crossroads Community Church. Please share memories and sign the register at www.lodifuneralhome.com if you are unable to attend. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations to the Trinitycare Hospice at www.trinitycarehospice.org) be made in Eddie Eberhardts name. The family also requests that those who cared for Eddie remember him as you love your families, brighten others days and further good in this world. Nothing would make him happier.
