Obituary of LaVerne T. Eakles

LaVerne T. Eakles of Lodi passed away in Lodi at the age of 88 on July 8, 2006. Mrs. Eakles was born in Missouri to Grant and Jesse Smallin on May 30, 1918. She moved to Olathe, Kansas and married Howard Eakles in 1934. They moved to the Lodi area in 1935. At the age of 45, she decided to go back to school and became a cosmetologist. She was self-employed for 42 years, having recently retired. Mrs. Eakles enjoyed walking, gardening, dancing, cooking, sewing and quilting, but most importantly, she enjoyed being with her family. She was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church, The Woman's Club of Lodi, and she was a volunteer at the Loel Community Center. She is survived by her daughter, Jean Myers of Lodi; four grandchildren, Dawn Hatzenbuhler of Stockton, Kelly Weissburg of Walnut Creek, Jolisa Miler of Modesto and Pam Eakles of Las Vegas; four great-grandchildren, Shane, Lauren, Casey and Erin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Eakles, son, Loren Eakles and two brothers, Millard and Howard Smallin. Friends are invited to visit Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held on Friday at Cherokee Memorial Park at 10:00 a.m. Memorial remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society, Lodi Unit, 207 East Alpine Avenue, Stockton, CA, 95204 or the American Heart Association, 1212 W. Robinhood Drive, Suite 5-D, Stockton, CA 95207.
