The neighborhood is going to be different without her walking around saying hello to everyone. Your family is in our prayers.

Lavern was a dear friend of mine. We didn`t see much of each other but we knew each other well. She was a very special lady. She was smiling every time I saw her. My prayers are with you all. A friend always, Cheryl

LaVerne was such a great person. When I first met her I was still in high school and going with Larry (Violett), and the first thing LaVerne told me was that she gave my boyfirend his first bath. LaVerne came to Lodi as a young wife and mother and had gotten acquainted with my (now) in-laws. LaVerne has known my mother-in-law (May) for over 60 years. I remember when LaVerne went into cosmetology and she fixed my hair for the prom. LaVerne was always like family and we had many outing, dinners, and parties together. She gave me a baby shower when my first son was born! I love LaVerne and will miss her very much. God bless.

I was so sorry to read of your mother's/ grandmother's passing in today's Lodi News Sentinel. We'd known her since we moved to Lodi in 1964 when we moved into the First Christian Church parsonage next door to her on S. Lee Ave. She also did my mother's (Etheleen Fiske) hair for many, many years. I don't know if you remember or not, but Laverne was scared of snakes. My siblings and I found a gopher snake somewhere and had it in an aquarium out in the garage. Unfortunately, it got out and we said, "Don't tell your grandmother!" My daughter always gave Mom a hard time for reading the gossip papers at Laverne's home salon but Mom could read them there without being seen buying them! Mom (who's 86-yrs-old now) says that she has very fond memories of good conversations about life while sitting under Laverne's capable hands. Laverne will be missed.
