Obituary of Robert Lee "Bob" Vetter

Mr. Robert Lee ?Bob? Vetter of Acampo and former resident of Angels Camp passed away Sunday January 14, 2007 in a Lodi hospital at the age of 82. Mr. Vetter was born May 10, 1924, in Underwood, North Dakota, to Edward and Anna Vetter. Mr. Vetter owned and operated Valley Plumbing & Sheet Metal, Heating and Air-Conditioning in Lodi for many years before retiring in 1987. He previously worked as a Ditch Tender for the Utica Power and Water Company in Angels Camp, California, as well as a teenage miner just before WWII. Bob was an active member of the Boy Scouts of America and served as a Scout Master for Troop 29 in Lodi. Bob was a lifelong flying enthusiast, taking his first flight instruction in 1941 at Lind?s (Lodi) Airport. He owned several aircraft, including helicopters and built an airstrip on his Acampo ranch, designated the Vetter Sky Ranch. He was a proud United States Army and WWII Veteran and a member of the San Joaquin County Sheriff?s Air Patrol Squadron, San Joaquin County Deputy Sheriff?s Auxiliary, and the Whirly Girls Auxiliary Honor member. He will be best remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by is loving wife of 59 years, Beverly J. Vetter of Acampo; 1 son, Edward Vetter (Mary of Santa Clara; 4 daughters, Linda Frey (Larry), Carol Wyrick (Bob), Kathie Dixon (Tom) of Lodi and Barbara Vantine (Richard) of Sacramento; 11 grandchildren: Sherri Wilson, Michelle Brausell, Mike Sherman, Jim Wyrick, Elizabeth Bennett, David and Melanie Dixon, Christopher and Miranda Vantine, Daniel Vetter and Melissa Carrero; 12 great grandchildren: Brandi Wilson; Morgan, Caleb, Conlan, and Colton Brasuell, Lukas Sherman, Micah and Hannah Bennett, Arriana, Kesi, Nathanael and Samuel Carrero. He was preceded in death by a sister Dorothy Alfieri. A chapel service will be held Friday January 19, 2007, 11:00 am at the Lodi Funeral Home, followed by a private interment. Visitation will be held Thursday 12:00-8:00 pm at the Lodi Funeral Home.
