Obituary of Noreen Griffee Hosie

Noreen Griffee Hosie passed away peacefully surrounded by her caring family at home on June 7, 2007 at the age of 68 after a valiant battle against cancer. Born in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles on November 14, 1938 to Clifford and Mary Kiley, she grew up living great memories with a large family of uncles, aunts and cousins (the Kiley-Kanaly family) in North Hollywood, CA. Following elementary school at St. Charles Borromeo, she graduated from Bellarmine-Jefferson Catholic High School in 1956. After one year at the University of Southern California (USC), she transferred and graduated from the University of Montana - Missoula in 1961 with a B.S. honors degree in Home Economics. Many of her years were spent as a courageous single mother raising two sons, Glenn and Daniel Griffee (father, Louis Griffee) in Fresno and Pleasanton, CA. For more than 30 years, Noreen worked in food advertising and consumer communications. As Director of Consumer Services for then "Sun-Diamond Growers of California", she managed all marketing communications and public relations for Sun-Maid Raisins, Sunsweet Prunes, Diamond Walnuts and Blue Ribbon Figs. Prior to Sun-Diamond, Noreen was in charge of consumer affairs for the California Raisin Advisory Board and also held a similar role with McCormick & Company's Schilling Division. In 1993 she married the love of her life, William Hosie, who was a long-time walnut rancher in Linden, CA and Diamond Walnut board chairman. Their joint retirement years allowed for many wonderful trips to their second home in New Zealand and unforgettable family houseboat trips on their boat "Yes, Dear" in Lake Shasta. Noreen will be best remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was also known for her fun-loving spirit, sense of humor, and keen intelligence. She will be dearly missed. She is survived by her husband William; sons Glenn and Daniel Griffee; daughter-in-law Kerri Griffee; stepdaughters Shaen Hosie and Erin Jackson; son-in-law Trent Jackson; grandchildren Shane, Kevin, Kyle, Brett, Makenna and Nathan; sister Angela (Kiley) Polglase and brother Michael Kiley. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00AM on Monday, June 18th, at St. Anne's Catholic Church, followed by a private family interment at the Linden Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit Saturday and Sunday at Lodi Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to Hospice of San Joaquin, 3888 Pacific Ave., Stockton, CA 95204.
