Obituary of Edith G. Munro
Please share a memory of Edith to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edith G. Munro was born on August 1, 1926 in Lexington, N.C. to Charles Garland Jones (Alamance County, N.C.) and Minnie Lee Hoge Jones (Davidson County, N.C.). She passed on April 15, 2020 at her home in Stockton, CA, her husband Bob Wagner at her side. Edie, as she was called, was predeceased by her parents Charles and Minnie, her daughter Susan E. Smith, son, Clifford Green, granddaughter Liga Smith and her second husband James W. Munro. She is survived by her daughter Linda Randi Coleman and grandson Troy Coleman of Minnesota, granddaughter Mary Kristin Nicholl (Jason) and two great grandchildren, Cooper and Morgan of Utah and her third husband Robert “Bob” Wagner of Stockton. Edie earned her Master’s Degree in Social Work and was a social worker in Utah for 20 years. Later, moving to California she served as the Director of Chapman University satellite campuses in Stockton and Modesto, CA. during the 1980s and early 1990s. She retired from Chapman University and spent her retirement years in Stockton. While at Chapman University Edie hired Peggy Young (Hughson, CA) as an Office Manager for the satellite campus in Modesto and they became close friends and for the next 35 years until her death, “Mom Edie” became the unofficial adopted mom for Peggy and her husband Dave and the grandma for their daughters Cherie and Brandi and later great grandma for Brandi and Cherie’s children and extended family. She spent every Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and holiday with the Young’s and countless dinners and bar-b-ques. After her second husband’s death and her marriage to Bob Wagner, Bob was assimilated into the clan as well. Edie met Bob at a Stockton apartment complex where she was working part-time in the Manager’s office. It was a Friday evening and Bob came into the office with a glass of wine in his hand. Edie asked where her glass was at. Bob left, returning moments later with Edie’s wine. That started the romance. Edie had an out of state trip planned and asked Bob if he would house sit “Morris” her large orange cat. Edie loved cats as much as giraffes. When Edie returned, Bob and Morris stayed. Edie was a collector of all things giraffe. Giraffe figurines, giraffe pictures, stuffed giraffe animals. She delighted in visiting zoos to see giraffes. She was especially fond of visiting Marine World, Vallejo. Edie loved her evening cocktail of scotch and water on the rocks. She never confessed what the drink of choice was that was the culprit, but she once stepped off a plane returning home from a vacation in Cabo San Lucas, her arm in a cast. She briefly explained she had been dancing on a table top in a bar and fell off, breaking her arm. She never went into any detail about that trip and we never talked about it again. Edie loved house boating at Lake Shasta and New Melones. She had a love for cats. She loved her dose of shopping too. Edie touched so many lives….she will be missed. Sweet Dreams Mom Edie….” May Flights of Angels Sing Thee To Thy Rest.” We will love you for always. There will be no burial services and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
