Obituary of Betty Jo Edwards

Mrs. Betty Jo Edwards long time resident of Galt passed away Sunday November 12, 2006 in a Lodi hospital at the age of 76. Mrs. Edwards was born March 3, 1930 in Spiro, Oklahoma to Doyle and Bertha Buttress. Mrs. Edwards along with her family moved to Lodi in 1943. She attended and graduated form Lodi Union High School Class of 1948. In 1950 she met the love of her life the late Lee Junior Edwards and together lived in Lodi before buying their first home in Galt where they remained until most recent time. Before marriage Betty and her sister Billie sang for KCVP Radio Station in Woodbridge. Betty worked as a dispatcher for Lodi City Cab Co. for many years before retiring in 1992. Betty was known for her tremendous memory of recognizing customers names, voices, their addresses, where they wanted to go and where they would be pick up. She also kept the drivers going in the right direction. She enjoyed going to the Jackson Casino and absolutely loved Bingo; she could play 48 cards at one time and also keep track of the player's cards on both sides of her. Mrs. Edwards always greeted everyone with a gorgeous smile and always loved good company. Betty was truly a family person; she cherished her children and absolutely adored her grandchildren. She never met a stranger and if she did they weren't a stranger for long. She will be best remembered a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother as well as for her friendly and fun personality. She will be dearly missed. She is survived by 3 sons, Johnny Lee Edwards of Arnold; Larry Ray Edwards and wife Karen of Galt; Rick J. Edwards of Galt; 1 daughter Connie Honeycutt and husband Bob of Lodi; 1 brother David Buttress and wife Betty of Owasso, Oklahoma; 3 sisters, Billie Holmes and husband Jim of Nice, California; Dolores Spanos and husband Nick of Lodi; Janice Roe of Lodi; a sister in-law Lucy Buttress of Cameron, Oklahoma; 7 grandchildren Ryan, Michael, Jeremy, Karenna, Becky, Courtney Edwards and Heather Honeycutt and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Lee J. Edwards in 2004, a brother Bobby Buttress, and a sister Pauline Gryder. A chapel service will be held Friday November 17, 2006, 1:00pm at the Lodi Funeral Home; 725 S. Fairmont Ave. Lodi, CA, followed by interment at the Lodi Memorial Cemetery 5750 E. Pine St. Lodi, CA . Visitation will be held Thursday 12:00-8:00pm at the Lodi Funeral Home.
