I remember family reunions as a child and hearing all the stories from my father's side of the family and how wonderful it was to have such a rich heritage.

From 7th grade on, I adopted the Schramm family...Although Kathy will always be my very best friend; I am filled with wonderful memories of everyone in the family, including Gramma Spence. She was sharp and funny...and we really liked having her around. But, what I remember most of all ...was that she was way too young and pretty to be anyone's grandma!!! Love to you all. Grandma Spence is in good hands. Susan

My dear friend Flora, You and Margarita were a joy to meet from the moment we met. I'm happy that I had the opportunity to meet your beautiful mother "Margarita." She made a lasting impression with many of our neighbors and myself. We often think of the winter night we all had to vacate our units, I almost had to run to keep up with her. She had us all laughing! She will be missed. Sincerely, Evelyn J. Moore

My Mother was such a special person it is difficult to write about her in a limited space. Probably the most intelligent person I have ever known, or will know. She loved words, and used words for fun and enjoyment! She loved most sports, and knew the finer points very well. Before television she enjoyed them on radio, and when possible attended sporting events. She was excited by knowledge and took great pleasure in knowing a lot about many things. She continued to enjoy Crossword puzzles up until about the last six months of her life. She had a wonderful wit and a great sense of humor. She brought laughter and gaeity to our lives, and served as a wonderful example to all of the young people that were always around her. She is missed terribly. We are so grateful for having had her in our lives.

A terrific lady, wonderfull friend and always there when you needed her. My favorite time was in preparation for Daryls 50th birthday party, Dick and I came up from La Habra and "stayed with Rita out of sight. Really had a terrific time with her as we have always had with all the family. She was a tribute to the female species and quite the lady. God has good and wonderfull plans for her. Love ya Rita, Pat

I do remember hearing all the stories, but I don't rmember all of them anymore. She was fun to be with, and I always enjoyed her when she came to stay with my mother [Addie Lan Franco] Listening to the both of them was fun and sometimes hard for they would speak in Spanish. I have missed her for awhile now, and I miss our monthly 2 hour phone calls. carol stowell

Grandma Nanita was a fantabulous woman. A few years ago, I brought her copies of the 1910 census for her neighborhood in Orange and she managed to tell us stories of just about everyone listed. I was amazed that she could remember all of that stuff with such detail!! I will always remember her with fondness and love. :-)

My Grandmother was a very propper lady who preferred to be called "Grandmother," if you please. She would call me kiddo, and some of her favorite phrases were, "You betcha," and "No kidding?" Which would be substitutions for todays "DUH." She loved lavendar, orchids and zebras, and me. We spent a lot of time together during my high school years. She would come and stay with us when my parents went out of town, which was twice a month. She was there when I went to my Prom, and when foreign visitors arrived from France, and she was the one who asked if I had rings 3 days before my wedding. When I didn't, she gave me hers. That was the most precious gift I have ever received. I thought of her and Spence and the love they shared and I told her, that if my husband and I were as happy as they were I would be truly blessed, and I am, and I was blessed with one terrific Grandmother. Yippee!

Memories of Redda July 30, 2003 A beautiful and petite woman with large intellect, wit, kindness, pride, and dignity, Aunt Redda epitomized all. Equally comfortable whether throwing together a batch of tortillas or discussing politics and history, she was a great storyteller and had an impeccable memory for people and colorful events which occurred in what is now the early history of California. My very favorite personal memories of Redda were that of she and "Spence spending many warm evenings in our home with a roomful of many of her nine siblings. Spence would sit at the piano and play, often by ear, and all would enjoy. Redda particularly enjoyed it when he would play the tune "Tenderly. She didn't care whether the Walter Gross/Jack Lawrence song was done by Satchmo and Ella, Nat King Cole, or Sarah Vaughan.she loved it anytime. I will cherish her warmth and beauty and the wonderful memories I have of her. --Linda Cervantes Briggs

My Gramma Spence or Nanita as my kids called her.....of course we all knew her name was Margarita but we didn't admit we knew her middle name! She had many loves in her life but the only ones I knew were Spence of course and her dog, Chico. She absolutely loved animals and they returned that love. She would talk to them and I swear they listened. She would also talk to the TV in a vain attempt to get those soap opera stars to fly right! I don't know how much she really knew about the sports she watched but she was involved on every play! I guess her secret was that she made the MOST out of every minute. Life was never dull for her no matter how routine it was. I hope I learned that from her. The joy of the moment.... I will remember her as she looked at my wedding. She hand-made a beautiful Gucci patterned long dress. She was an excellent seamstress and her dress fit her petite but sexy figure perfectly. She wore her hair up that day and looked as regal as Grace Kelly ever did. I'll miss her!
