Obituary of Alys Belle Tracewell

Alys Belle Tracewell, age 87, an elegant, and sometimes eccentric resident of Lodi. CA, died peacefully at Lodi Memorial Hospital West on Friday, November 3rd, 2006, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born September 12, 1919, in Kokomo, Indiana to the late Ray and Alice Rueby of Rochester, NY. Truly a woman born in the wrong century, Alys was an intelligent, independent lady who had a pilots license by the time she was 32 and became a member of the Civil Air Patrol during WWII. In addition to raising her four children, Alys worked in retail sales most of her professional life, and tutored college professors in math at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA well into her 70's. A published writer, master at crochet, many of her original designs are still enjoyed by many. Alys is survived by her daughters Stephanie Foust, of St. Louis, IL, Linda and her husband Ralph Yasin of Stockton, CA; Sharene and her husband Harrison Klein of Pahoa, Hawaii; her son, David Tracewell and his wife Carolyne of Kansas City, Missouri; her brother Ray Rueby, Jr. of Pittsford, NY, her brother Robert Rueby and his wife Nora of Webster, NY; seven grand-children and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Benjamin Rueby; one granddaughter, Lisa Yasin; and her husband, Wesley G. Tracewell. Visitation for Alys Belle Tracewell will be held from 12 noon to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 8th, at Lodi Funeral Home, with services held at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be held privately at Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi, CA. We request memorial donations be made in her name for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. We would life to thank all the Nurses and staff at the Lodi Memorial Hospital West facility for their help, compassion and support. Alys was an inspiration to all who knew her.
