Your mom exuded life and living it to it's fullest. I remember so many times spending the night at your house or going places with your family....you could always count on a good dose of her laughter, a lot of "chat sessions", and a huge, home-cooked breakfast! She was so much fun! And then years later when I started bringing my kids to your house....they recieved the same warm welcome. We are "city folk", so my kids were fascinated by the country life at the Reinstein's house. Your mom took them out and taught them how to collect the eggs from the chickens and showed them how to find worms to feed the chickens with. They rode their first horse with your mom cheering them on and played on their first tree swing with your mom pushing them. There was always something new to discover and your mom was always there helping them discover it. I remeber her helping us in the bridal chamber as I was getting ready to get married...so many wonderful memories to cling to and cherish. I have been and will continue to pray that these memories sustain you along with the huge, comforting arms of God. I love you, Kristi

Jan was a lady I adored and admired. She always was so excited about everything, especially anything to do with family and family gatherings. Our family always enjoyed and looked forward to having Pete and Jan in our home for a holiday. I will always cherish those times. Jan left us too soon and she will be missed greatly by all of us she touched so deeply. I am off to the nursery to buy some roses..........

Sending my deepest Sympathies to Pete, Janelle, and Deanne. . I hope that soon you sorrow is replaced my warm memories. I have a memory that will always live with me. Many years ago, my Parents and I visited the ranch. While everyone else was outside getting the tour, I wondered inside. Janice was cooking bacon on the stove. I remember being amazed that the bacon was not splattering. I asked Janice what was wrong with her bacon. She smiled and explained to me that it was fresh, and that fresh bacon didn?t splatter. Janice then gave me a piece to try. It was the best bacon I have ever eaten. It is the bacon that all bacons since have been compared to. Thankfully, she waited to tell me that the bacon used to have name, and run around outside.

As I think back I can remember the many times that we, the Repetto's, and the Reinstein's got together for holiday's and other celebrations. Jan's laugh could be heard throughout any room. I remember teasing her mercilessly at the practice for Mark and Deanne's wedding. She wanted everything to be perfect so she made us all go over what we were suppose to do many times over in that sweltering church. So, of course I would flub or comment just to throw her off. She would laugh and give me that glare that only mom's can do. It was precious. I also remember how Jan glowed when P.J. came into the world. We were all so proud and happy to have another Peter Repetto around. I also remember what a get together she could organize. A few years ago Jan and Pete invited my mom and I out to Lockeford for Mother's Day. I can attest that the food, fun and family that she orchestrated in her newly remodeled kitchen was well worth the drive! Her whole family, which I consider to be part of my family will be in my thoughts and prayers. I'm sure she's up there with my dad watching out for their grandchildren and swapping stories. God Bless.

While my husband, Leo, and I never had the good fortune of meeting Jan, our son, Chris, had recently talked to Jan. Jan was earnest in her desire to help my son find a new lady in his life. Upon learning that Jan was a lover of gardens, we decided to create a live memorial to her by planting and potting greenery at our son's home in Lodi on the morning of Jan's memorial service. We feel blessed to have had the priviledge of living as neighbors to Jan's daughter, Deanne, and her terrific family. I believe sincerely that Jan's goodness and intellect lives on in Deanne and the wonderful family she and husband, Mark, have created. Deanne's family is a living tribute to the greatness of Jan. Jan, you did a fabulous job. Thank you, Jan, for giving us such loving neighbors. Sincerely, Joan Darling and Leo Warren

Mrs. Reinstein was instrumental in my realizing my dream of attending and graduating from college. She showed me that just because my mother could not afford to send me to college did not mean that my hard work in high school would not pay off. She encouraged me to apply to UCLA, the college I ended up attending and graduating from, and was just as happy as I was when I was accepted. Once I graduated I was pleased and honored when she came to my graduation party. She meant a lot to me and to many of my friends, who also benefited from her advice. She will be missed.

Looking back we can see our friends Jan and Pete with their two young girls, the same ages as ours doing the things that families do together. Jan was the most wonderful mom. She had them join Blue Birds and that is how we first got to know them. I have pictures of ice skating at the rink when they were young. Later on we did a back packing trip to Meiss Lake up past Kirkwood, where they eventually bought a home. We will always remember the fun of camping with them and hoped to some day do it again. When Jan and Pete told us they were moving to the country, we were very sad. I knew that we would probably lose contact with each other as so often happens when friends move away. Fortunately for us, my sister Barbara Canepa had recently moved to the country and we told them about this family with two girls who were new to the area, too. I think Frank had a horse or two at the time and needed shoes so it happened that Pete did some work for them and they became great friends .... still are... imagine that! So we didn't lose our friends, but rather, were added to our extended family. I will always think of Jan when I do stuffed peppers. She was the one who amazed me one summer when she was freezing her peppers... ready to eat for a quick family supper. She will be missed! But, the lasting picture of Jan in our minds, will be of her laughing uproariously at the comedy of John chasing the dog, after it had peed on his sleeping bag (preferring that location out of a thousand square miles of wilderness). That picture--big smile, infectious laugh--truly relected the inner person: a lady who loved everyone unconditionally, as she is loved in return.

Jan's enthusiasm was so infectious. She could light up a room with her smile. I first met Jan when she drove to Stanford University for a college workshop. I was new as a high school counselor. She inspired confidence in me as she did in all the students she helped get accepted and pay for college. I knew she was always a phone call away with help and answers. She was genuine and down to earth. Jan set the gold standard for scholarship advising in this area. I will miss her.

Dear Pete: We were so saddened to hear of Jan's passing. We both know how unexpected this was and want you to know that our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. I remember the day that Jan and you came into Linda's when she was closing the Bear's Lair. Jan was so happy with what she was doing, decorating the cabin and so involved with the remodling. She was so full of life, Pete, and so happy. We are both glad that at the time she passed, she had had some time to spend with you and was busy involved doing the things she loved. While we know that your time together in retirement was too short, we thank our Lord that any suffering she experienced was short. My words fail me and seem very inadequate for what has happened, so we will close by wishing you God's blessing and knowing that at some point, your pain will be replaced by the memories of the many happy years you had together. She helped me to obtain numerous scholarships and achieve my goal of attending and graduating Cal Poly, SLO. To a beautiful family - my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Janice, You were my dear friend, a mother away from home, who never ceased to give me guidance and support. Of course, you also never failed to take an opportunity to make me laugh...mostly at myself! You endless and selfless dedication to the thousands of students you served over the years continues to be a model for all of us in education. Most importantly, however, you were the backbone for the "all American family"...an wonderful mother, fun, supportive loving wife, and the best grandma any child could dream off. You will always be with us and loved.

It has taken me a several days and today's service to gather a few thoughts. You're tired of hearing "What a shock," but that is how I feel in my brain. My heart aches for all us. Jan added another dimension to a roomfull of people. She made us livelier, happier, hungrier(we KNEW she'd have food); she made us better versions of ourselves. Whenever I saw her beeline down the hall toward me, I knew she was going to talk me into doing something. Jan was a person to whom even the strongest "No" meant "maybe." I never knew anyone who could turn her down. We knew that as hard as we worked, she did just as much for a lot less pay; she adored the students with whom she worked, and they returned the affection. I have a short list of people whose departure would make this world a better place; her name is nowhere to be seen. We all know that life isn't fair, but this goes beyond unfair. We have been cheated and robbed! Girls, because of frequent updates, I know how happy and successful you are. We often talked of you two. Pete, to have Jan as the love of your life marks you as a most fortunate man. She loved you to pieces. Enough of this. The service was just what she would like, esp the flowers. The food was fine, but not as good as hers. My affection to all, joanne gavin

What I remembers the most about Jan is that smile of hers that will surely light in Heaven. I remember all of her fun visits to Davis to see Deanne. Like so many of Deanne's friends we spent many special times together. Whether it was remodeling the U Street house, up at Kirkwood, or at Deann's house she was always very kind and thoughtful. She was a beautiful person but not just physically, her passion for her family and for those around her made her special beyond words. I am saddened by the loss and her family will be in my prayers.

Pete, Deanne, Jenell and family: I was shocked like everyone else was to hear of Jan's sudden illness and passing. I got the call while on vacation and have had your family in my prayers and thoughts daily. Jan taught me so much when I first came to Lodi High 20 years ago. We learned the new computer system together and the two of us headed up the new phone system and training at our site. I remember Jan as always having a smile on her face and a ready laugh. She had a big heart for helping the students get a college education. She was so proud of her girls and grandchildren. After losing my father less than two months ago, I know the pain you are going through and hurt with you. I'm sorry I couldn't make the memorial service as we just returned from vacation yesterday. May God bless you and give you comfort with your loss.

I was so saddened to learn of your moms death. My thoughts immediately went back to Lodi High where she always had such a kind and approachable spirit about her. It's a wonderful tribute to think of the many lives (students and staff) she touched in her years of service there. I am so thankful for you to have had the blessings of a recent family vacation to Aptos. What precious memories those will be for you and your family. I will pray that the love and support of family and friends will bring peace and ease your sadness. Know that you're in my thoughts and prayers.

We first met Jan as Deanne's parent when we organized a trip to Europe for Lodi High School students. Her love for her children, her family, and young people in general very quickly became obvious. This love continued to motivate her to work so hard on behalf of so many students at Lodi High School. Her beautiful smile and positive attitude will be missed but always remembered. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family.

Jan, This was a lady I looked up to since the day I met her. She was always willing to lend a helping hand, make a counseling appointment, or help us get ready to perform on the MM. I had the privilige to work with Jan in several aspects. She was an inspiration to me in the way she was a mother, hard worker and a great wife. She was able to balance all of these things and be truly successful. I will truly miss you Jan, and my prayers are with your family.

THANK YOU JAN!!! I had also had the priviledge of seeing Jan at Lodi High and witnessing all her hard work and caring dedication she gave to so many students. We discussed her retirement and how we were both so anxious to spend time with our grandchildren and also do some trailoring. Mrs. Reinstein was a very important part of my college education. She helped me research colleges and choose the best one for me. She also provided support, encouragement, and selfless contributions to the students at Lodi High. Because of her encouragement I recieved numerous scholarships my first year at college. I remember meeting with her almost every morning to complete scholarship applications, she would be in her office with a beautiful smile on her face, always wanting to help. I will never forget the help I recieved from her, she will always be remembered. Jennifer Bianchi Class of 1999

Janice. Who was she? What was she? First...she was my sister. Second...she my closest and best friend. I remember when we were young. She would do anything I asked her...in fact, one time I asked her to stand on a rug... so I could pull it out from under her. And you know what? She did...and I did! Then there was another time when I ran over her with my bike. What fallowed was the worst spanking of my life. Even after that...she still trusted me. I've had a lot of time to think about our times together. I keep comming back to the memories of her feeding me. Many times over the years I've helped Jan and Pete with their building projects. Jan was always there to feed me. When I was sick, Jan was there to feed me... when I was sad, Jan was there to feed me. If it wasn't for Jan...I may have been a thin person. I sometimes think I should be holding a sign..."Will work for food." The hardest part of Jan marrying Pete was spelling the name Reinstein...It took me three months to learn how to spell it. Watching Jan and Pete together made me understand the real meaning of the words...soul mates! Jan also taught me that nothing was more important that family. When she was with her grandchildren...she was at her best. She was a great, big, wonderful part of my life. And always will live in my heart. Perhaps...heaven needs someone to cook. I can just imagine her making plans to feed everone up there. Goodbye my sister. Until we meet again!

Janice was a real champion for the students of Lodi High during her years there. She worked very hard to set up and run the scholarship office for the school. Many many students owe a debt of gratitude to Mrs Reinstein for all her hard work and caring. In my contacts with her I always found her to be up beat and positive. I know from our many conversations that she loved her girls! Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you. Ken Warburton

Still miss my second mom terribly. I still have tremendous gratitude toward Jan for literally single-handedly teaching me daily how to do my job as a counselor (and hourly during my first week at Lodi High). It wasn't just work skills I learned from her. Being newly married and not knowing how to cook, there were many afternoons she sent me home with a new recipe to try. I, too, could never say "no" to Jan. Like many others, she made me a better person. Jenell and Deanne, how lucky you were to have had such a super star of a human being as a mom. So many times since her passing I have asked myself "What would Jan have done?" I'm sure she lives on in your hearts. You probably see her in your children. I was truly blessed to have worked with her.
