George was a loving and trustworthy man, who dearly loved all his family. He found "God's Grace was truly sufficient for him. In the valley, or on a mountain's steep shelves: In life's dark, low places he found real gold in himself. There was innter power for him during weakness,For God's precious promise is true: New strength was for him to the end for George and any one that will trust in God." mjnorman

I will always remember George's kind words and huge smile. My twin sister Colleen and I went through school with George. Colleen passed away two years ago, on the exact day of George's passing and I am sure they are already talking and laughing together. Our sincere and deepest simpathy to all the family. I have few childhood memories that do not include George, especially fond memories. Memories such as hearing the twin pipes of Frank's Ford bringing Shirley home from a date and knowing it was time for us to get home also. All night monopoly games complete with scary stories and ending with your mom fixing us a huge country breakfast. Lazy summer days spent on the river. Midnight hunting trips to Webster's pond and Fisher's pond. Our first scout overnight trip when we hiked toward Jenny Lind in our jeans and carrying our supplies in cardboard boxes while envying all the others in their sharp uniforms complete with backpacks. The time my 3 wheel scooter broke down in the mud and you talked Tommy and me into pushing it home while you rode on the seat. I will remember you always.

The world has been a better place because we were blessed to have "Gdubb" in our lives. I'm going to miss those long conversations we've had. He had such a loving heart and he loved all you kids so much. We're all going to miss him. But what a wonderful place he's in now. I love all of you and how I loved "Gdubb"!!!!

I remember when I was young, G'dubb coming to Okla. to visit. He and daddy would stand in Aunt Tillie's yard and laugh and talk up a storm. Most of the time they talked about the Navy. Daddy would tell G'dubb about his adventures and G'dubb would tell daddy about his. I would look up at them and they both looked bigger than life. I can just see them now. Daddy telling him about the new adventures he has in front of him and G'dubb telling daddy all about "you kids"(as Aunt Duck called you). My prayers and my love are with each of you and may Gods strength be with you through these next days and weeks. Mother doesn't have e-mail, so she wants me to tell you that she loves you all and her prayers are with you.

Ah, Tubbs where do I start? We had some fun. In high school we'd chase the girls. They'd catch us for Sadie Hawkins day. We were high on the principle's list 'cause Mo knew our first names. And, we tossed bean sacks onto Frank's truck to bulk up for football and the real payoff...a sip of the hard stuff. Early morning breakfast at your house...Oh my! how your mom could cook. I still smell and taste home made sausage, eggs, biscuits and gravy. We would fish the ponds, hunt the fields, and swim the creeks, and occasionally, smoke a rum soaked Crooks cigar. Remember Halloween, the scary stories, and the fudge parties? Yeah, we had fun! Well George, we grew up! You joined the Navy and I followed. After Essex you got out and had a long successful career with PG&E. I stayed for 30 years and would see you when home on leave. You were proud of your VA status and so am I. This past summer we talked about attending your Essex reunion together when it's in the Seattle area. Just know, old buddy, that I will knock on the reunion door, poke my head in, and say 'howdy' for you. I regret not being there for you tomorrow but my son Curtis and family are arriving tonight. In your words, George, "I love you like a brother." May you have fair winds and following seas.

My husband, Tom and George have been friends for a lot of years but had become much closer the past several years. I should say my husband, Tommy, as that is what George called him. Tom is going to miss the annual May parties. He had started to go up several days before and stay a couple of days after. Tom likes to cook and would do a lot of the cooking while he was there. He shared his salsa recipe with George and we even bought George a salsa maker. Tom is also the one that took it upon himself to decorate George's bathroom with pottery pieces I had made. George called and couldn't say enough about them. George was always a very sweet man towards me. Tom will miss the parties and the phone conversations with George. I will miss the emails - I always copied them for Tom.

Its hard to explain to others, how young men (sailors) are able to create such a bond that lasts a life time. GW was one of those very special people that could get along with anybody, and everybody. He was a person that everyone liked, but above all everyone had the utmost respect for GW, because he was true to his word, a hard working pro at what ever he did, and you could always count on GW, he would be the last one to let you down. Norm and I hooked-up more darn planes to those old ESSEX hydraulic catapults that I care to remember, during two cruises, especially during The Lebanon and Formosa crises. I also have to say that Norm was an extremely good Pinochle Partner. I am going to miss you old buddy!

Uncle Tubby, I was always so proud to call you my Uncle. When I grew up and married a man that hunted and fished you became good friends. As we started to travel a lot with our hounds to coon hunts you always wanted to know how "Cowboy Joe" and "Kiss" were doing in the hunts. I will miss the calls to let you know. But I know that the hunts you are going on now are by far the best. Happy Trails Uncle Tubby I Love you. Patty.

Uncle Tubby. A great respect for you was learned from my mother (Patty),because she always spoke so highly of you. But I learned for myself in the visits that you made to Arkansas. I am sure you are up in heaven right now working away building sets of wooden flower boxes for Grandma Shirley to plant her beautiful irises. I bet together you two are making heaven a more beautiful place...We love you Uncle Tubby.. Jenny Lou & family

I knew you for years but didn't get to know you until the last couple of years.I'm so sorry we didn't keep in touch with each other over the years. I thank God we were able to reunite at our Navy reunion. That would not have happened if it wasn't for you. You will be sadly missed by many you have touched. I am very proud that I could call you "Friend". Your friend Chuck Pinney
