Obituary of Roy White

VIRGIL LEROY WHITE age 98 a former resident of Lodi, passed away in Upper Lake, CA on Friday, May 28th. Born in Beaver County, Oklahoma on June 14, 1905 and moved with his family to Visalia in 1918. Roy married Nina Chappell in 1928 and they made their home in Santa Cruz and later Dinuba. In 1945 they moved to Lodi where Roy began working for Lodi Metal Tech. He continued with this same company for over thirty years, retiring in 1982. Nina passed away on August 20,1975. A long time friend came back into Roy's life when he married Joyce (Dillon) Weber on Christmas Day 1975 in a snow covered lodge at Pine Crest in the Sierras, with all the family present. The couple made their home in Lodi. They lived in Whitmore, CA for seven years and moved to Upper Lake in 1989. He was a former member of Palo Cedro SDA Church; English Oaks SDA Church; Lockeford SDA Church and was currently a member of the Upper Lake SDA Church. He was active in church work and served as a Sabbath School teacher and superintendent for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and reading. Survived by his wife, Joyce B. White of Upper Lake, CA; 2 sons, Don White of Hollister, Missouri, Lloyd White of Tracy; 3 daughters, Marian Hawkey of Escondido, Alice Mae Archer of Walla Walla, Washington, Valerie Burnett of Stockton; Step-daughter, Nancy Cromer of Angwin, CA; 13 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; Preceded in death by his first wife, Nina D. White on Aug. 20, 1975; 2 sisters, Hazel Wallis and Viola Sinn. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 3rd at 10 a.m. at Lodi Funeral Home with Elder Robert Williams officiating. Committal will follow at Cherokee Memorial Park. Visitation will begin on Wednesday at Noon to 8 p.m., Thursday 8 to 10 a.m.
