Ervin Engelhardt of Lodi passed away in Lodi on June 2, 2004 at the age of 79. Mr. Engelhardt was born on October 17, 1924 in Denhoff, North Dakota to Rudolf and Caroline Engelhardt. His childhood and early adult life was spent in North Dakota, working on the family farm. He completed high school there and later served in the U.S. Army, U.S. Third Army, and 95th Infantry Division, 447th Anti-Aircraft Battalion. He fought at the Battle for Bastogn and the Battle for Matz. In 1943 he was Golden Gloves Boxing Champ in North Dakota. In 1948, he met and married the love of his life, Olga Hrisko. In the early 1950's he moved to Lodi and took a job at General Mills and worked there for over 32 years. Mr. Engelhardt enjoyed fishing, hunting, basketball, strudels, sauerkraut, steaks and country music. He liked to camp at Hogan Dam and Dillon Beach and travel. He worked at the Lodi food bank and was very active at St. Paul Lutheran Church where he was a member. He was also a member of the V. F. W. Mr. Engelhardt is survived by his children; Rick and wife, Lisa Engelhardt of Lodi, Carol and husband, Norm Hopkins of Lodi and Ervin and wife, Noreen Engelhardt of Folsom; grandchildren, Charas and Jeremiah Hopkins, Melissa and Mallory Engelhardt and Katie and Jillian Engelhardt; sisters, Lenora Filler of Stockton, Arlene Dockter of Bismarck, N.D. and Leah Delzer of Pheasanton, N.D. He was deeply loved by his family and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his wife, Olga Jane Engelhardt on January 7, 2001; siblings, Viola DeWalt, Roland Engelhardt, Caroline Bender and Evelyn DeWalt. A service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Monday at 10 AM with Pastor Jerry Pedersen officiating. Committal will immediately follow at Cherokee Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Friday from 8:00AM until 8:00 PM and Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 AM until 6:00 PM at Lodi Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, ECLA, 701 S. Pleasant Avenue, Lodi, CA 95240.
