Martha Hellwig of Lodi passed away in Lodi on August 25, 2004 at the age of 91. Mrs. Hellwig was born in Wishek, North Dakota on December 19, 1912 to Jacob and Christina Will. She worked at Herr Brothers Mercantile in Wishek. She married Joshua Herr, and they moved to this area in 1938, settling in Lodi. Mr. Herr passed away in 1944. She was a fulltime homemaker until 1944. She later went to work at Purity Grocery Store as a checker. She later married Jerry Hellwig. Mrs. Hellwig was a long-time member of First Baptist Church and the First Baptist Senior Group. She also belonged to the Grange Women's Auxiliary in Victor. She enjoyed sewing, traveling and fishing. Martha is survived by her daughter, Janice and husband, Richard Wakefield of Lodi, and brother, Arthur Will of Baraboo, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joshua Herr in 1944, second husband, Jerry Hellwig in 1986 and brothers, Ruben Will and Marvin Will and sister, Freda Vennard. A Chapel service will be held on Monday at 10:00 AM at Lodi Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Newman of First Baptist Church officiating. Committal will be private at Cherokee Memorial Park. Visitation begins on Saturday from 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM, continuing on Sunday from 9:00 AM until 6:00 PM at Lodi Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 267 N. Mills, Lodi, CA 95242 or charity of donor's choice.
