Obituary of Betty Schmidt

BETTY MAY SCHMIDT, age 80 of Lodi, passed away on October 25th in a local convalescent hospital. Betty was born on April 7, 1924 in Lodi where she attended local schools and graduated from Lodi High School. She married Leo Schmidt on March 22, 1947 in Reno, Nevada and the couple made their home in Lodi. Betty enjoyed being a homemaker, cooking for her family and especially caring for her grandchildren. She was employed at Christine's Dress Shop for several years and also Clifford's Baby Store in Lodi. She attended Vinewood Community Church. She is survived by her husband, Leo Schmidt of Lodi; 3 sons, Leo Schmidt of Elmira, Oregon, John Schmidt of Lodi and Don Schmidt of Escondido; daughter, Patricia Mayberry of Modesto; sister, Joyce Riffel of Felton, CA; step-sister, Barbara Farrel of Boise, Idaho; 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her father, Frank Buell and mother, Alvina Ellis. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home, with Rev. Dr. Vernon Kraft of Vinewood Community Church officiating. Committal will follow at Cherokee Memorial Park.
