Obituary of Magdalena Helwig

Magdalena, "Maggie" Helwig of Lodi passed away in Lodi at the age of 87 on August 8, 2005. Mrs. Helwig was born in Canada on November 27, 1917. She grew up on a farm in Horsham. She left the farm, met and eventually married Louie Helwig on January 3, 1937. They moved to Lodi in 1950. Maggie worked at Helwig Restaurant and owned and operated Turnage Fountain for three years until it closed. She later went to work at LaVerne's Coffee Shop as a cook. She enjoyed cooking for her family, crafts, beads and crocheting. She attended First Baptist Church. Mrs. Helwig is survived by her husband, Louie Helwig of Lodi; sons, Dennis and Darrell Helwig of Lodi and daughter, Carol Helwig of Fresno; three grandchildren, Tony, Bryan and Maxwell Helwig; three great-grandchildren, Cycle, Amanda and Nathan Helwig; one brother, Ernie Hildenbrand of Canada and sister, Adeline Schmidt of Canada. She was preceded in death by her five brothers, Henry, Bernie, Ray, Roy and Sam Hildenbrand and two sisters, Elsie Kneiss and Lydia Brost. A graveside service will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM at Cherokee Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Thursday from 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM.
