I dedicate this tribute to one of the nicest people in the world Melville T. Wright Sr. He was a father, a grandfather, and my best friend. The memories we shared together will always be cherished in my heart. His spirit and soul were genuine and real. He had a heart made of gold. He lived life like no other, and made everyday special and exciting. There will always be a special place in my heart and I will never forget him.

Had him as a teacher in seventh, eighth, and ninth grades at Abbott Junior High School, Elgin, IL 1957-1959. I believe that he lived a block or two from me when I was growing up in Elgin, IL but that is a bit fuzzy. When I visited the school in 1998 they were using the same exact industrial arts projects that I worked on 40 years earlier. Tim Skoning Elgin High, Elgin, IL, Class of 1962

Mel was my drafting teacher at Abbott Jr. High in 1967, the year before he retired. He was a no-nonsense teacher without being too strict. One of my memories of his classes was he would walk the room while we were drawing and if he noticed a mistake on our paper he would say oh no, thats all wrong then checkmark it with a red pencil and we would start all over again. God Bless...

Melville was a wonderful person. He came to Houghton for many years to visit my Aunt Zelda Schutz. He was such a caring person and thought the world of his family. He always had a smile on his face and a kind word. He would help aunt Zelda do her gardening when here to visit or just help out the rest of the family on projects. I have not seen him for 17 years but we kept in touch by mail and he always kept me update on his family. He was a wonderful man. My prayers go out to his entire family. I was very sadden to receive the news of his passing. Joe, rosemary,(bridget) and jud beveridge

The best father-in-law possible. I met him in 1952 as I began to court his daughter, Eleanor. As years went by and he came to visit us in Dallas and Granbury, Tx. we got involved in many projects together such as pouring a concrete patio, drilling a water well by hand, planting 5000 trees in the country and later lots of fishing and boating and Saturday night country music festivals. What a grand guy! Easy to get along with, always happy and appreciative. I will miss him.

WOW, Norma Jean and Wes, 101 years this earth was blessed by your wonderful dad, teacher, educator, giving of himself to family and others! I only knew him and your mother through the church--sorta the same way I knew the two of you. It is so good to read the tributes from his granddaughters and to realize how loved this man was by his family. I'll bet one of his favorite movies was the Knute Rockne movie with Ronald Reagan as the Gipper! Never had that bit of information before. Mel's influence on family, students, and others he had contact with will live on in them who will certainly pass these ideals on to future generations. God bless you all!

Not many people are as fortunate as I have been to have my Great-Grandfather around for 33 years! It has been truly a blessing to spend so much time with him. I have so many wonderful memories playing cards, helping him water the flowers, shopping and learning about the history of our family. I will miss him terribly, especially his contagious laugh and stories, but am so glad to know he is in heaven with Great Grandma.

Our condolences on Mel's death. He was my teacher at Abbott Junior High in Elgin in the early forties. He also taught my two sons in the sixties. We were neighbors on Commowealth Avenue and his daughter Norma Jean and I were a year apart in school. He had a very long life. God's blessings on all survivors.

I remember your father well. He was a very nice man and a great teacher. He was always soft-spoken. I only had him for a teacher for a semester, I think. He taught me drafting in industrial arts. I often think of him when I print. I used the techniques he taught me when I drew up plans for some of the masonry work I did for customers. I send my sympathy to the entire family.
