Our many prayers for Uncle Paul and the rest of the family. We smile when thinking of Aunt Ester and her kindness. I have many memories of holidays and gatherings as a young child when Aunt Ester would bake her delicious cakes and cookies. Aunt Ester and Uncle Paul's house has a great back yard where my brother, cousins and I would play while visiting. Our hearts are heavy and our memories plenty as we celebrate the wonderful spirit of Aunt Ester.

Some of the many special memories of Oma that I will keep close to my heart are of Thanksgivings and Christmas' spent with Oma and the family. I have fond memories of Oma's warm smile, kind interaction and her delicious Liver Dumpling Soup and numerous cookies and cakes. I have a vivid memory of her consoling me after my own grandmother's passing and it was from that day on that I truly felt that Oma was like a grandmother to me, filling a void from her loss. I am so eternally grateful for moments shared with Oma and I will never forget her kindness and loving ways. To Opa, Helga and Heidi I'd like to say that Oma's loving, kind and gentle spirt shines through you and is everlasting!

We felt we knew Ester the first time Corinne, who recently met Chris and family, described her first Christmas Eve as a guest with the Marshall family! She said that when she walked in the door with her white cotton lace dress, Ester exclaimed, "How Beautifull!!"; Al and I always remember that first impression of Ester, as it was imparted to us by Corinne's reminiscence when she spent the following Christmas Day with us in Berkeley;and it has remained with us ever since! To us, Ester's enthusiasm and good taste, and joy of life will always be a treasure! Ester,your essence and force of life will be remembered. You have added a joy and grace to our lives and family! The first time I met you, the sparkling eyes and wide smile immediately let me know you were Helga's Mom. Elegant, warm, kind and engaging are the adjectives that come to my lips when I recall Ester at Chris and Corinne's wedding four years ago. She was so full of life and joy, she was a delight to talk to and made everyone feel so welcome. She loved to dance and turned all the heads at the wedding. I had the pleasure of sharing a meal with Ester, Paul, Helga and Peter at Ester and Paul's home in Lodi. The wonderful German meal was delicious and reminded me of my own family meals. It was as if I was a part of the family--looking through the family album, enjoying the German decor of the home. Ester, everyone that shared a few moments of your life was the richer for it. You brought out the joy, the smile, the laughter and in the words of Goethe, made us feel "Hier bin ich zu Hause." May the peace of the Lord bless you as your journey takes you "nach Hause." Dear Mr. Petschuch, dear Helga and family! Das Bild von Ester strahlt genau das aus, was mir an Helga so viel bedeutet: Optimismus, positive Energie und Mut zum Leben in vollen Zuegen und eine wohltuende Offenheit, die mich von Anfang an in ihren Bann gezogen hat. Ich weiss aus eigener Erfahrung wie gross der Schmerz ist, einen geliebten und vertrauten Menschen zu verlieren. My memory of Ester (Oma) is that she always had a smile that would light up the entire room. I had the pleasure of being included in a Christmas celebration at Chris' parents house a few years ago and truly felt like a part of the family. Oma and Opa were integral parts of that evening and it was filled with laughter, good conversation and family. I will always hold a special place for all the memories that I have of Oma. Liebe Helga, mein herzlichstes Beileid zum Tod deiner Mutter! Du hast/ihr hattet schwere Jahre gemeinsamer Todesvorbereitung. Die liegen nun hinter euch beiden. Deine Mutter ruht, und auch du kannst ruhen. Ihr geht's jetzt gut, also kein Grund fuer dich, nicht auch allmaehlich wieder Freude am Leben zu finden. Meine Mutter ist vor ueber fuenf Jahren gestorben, von heut auf morgen, allein in Deutschland, im Schlaf. Lieber Paul, liebe Kinder, Enkel, Urenkel und alle, die Ester lieb hatten, mit Schmerz habe ich vom Tode Esters erfahren und moechte Euch mein tiefempfundenes Beileid aussprechen. Wir haben uns nie persoenlich kennengelernt, aber die Telefongespraeche und e-mails haben uns einander naeher gebracht.
