Max Rivera, Sr., of Lodi, passed away at the age of 84 in Sacramento on August 15, 2006. He was born Maximo Villarreal Rivera on May 30, 1922, in McAllen,Texas where he grew up, met and married Consuelo Montalvo. They lived in Texas, Indiana and Arizona before moving to Lodi in 1963. A veteran of the U. S. Army, Mr. Rivera worked for U.S. Steel, Overhead Door as a # 1 Welder, Lodi Parks and Recreation in parks maintenance and Allstate Packers as a Security Guard Officer before retiring. Mr. Rivera enjoyed the casinos, traveling with his wife and visiting family and friends. He will best be remembered as a beloved husband, wonderful father, special grandfather and an exceptional friend to all who knew him. He is survived by three daughters, Bertha Ramos and Becky Rivera, both of Lodi and Lupe Rivera of Idaho; two sons, Oscar Rivera of Lodi and Fred (Irma) Rivera, Sr. of Sacramento; 30 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson; five brothers, Pete Rivera and Matias Rivera of Texas, Raul (Sandy) Rivera of Huntington Beach, Ramiro (Chris) Rivera of Idaho, Bobby (Sue) Rivera of Arizona; three sisters, Esther Espinoza of Texas, Irene (Ismael) Lopez of Arizona and Margie (Leo) Robles of Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Connie Rivera, three sons, Max Rivera, Jr., Fernando Rivera and Richard Rivera; two granddaughters, Rebecca M. Rivera and Deanna Ramos and one sister, Amelia Rocha. Friends are invited to visit Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home. Recitation of Holy Rosary will be said at Lodi Funeral Home on Monday at 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at St. Anne's Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Committal will immediately follow.
