Obituary of Albert Alfred Amaro

Albert Alfred Amaro, a long-time resident of Thornton, passed away in Stockton at the age of 91 on Tuesday, August 22, 2006. Mr. Amaro was born in Isleton, CA on May 26, 1915 to Francisco and Virginia Amaro. Shortly after his birth, his family moved to Courtland where he grew up. On September 10, 1940, he married Mary Ann Silva. In 1941 they bought a farm and moved to Thornton where he raised tomatoes, asparagus, wheat and other crops. Mr. Amaro retired in 1981. He was a member of the Catholic Church of Saint Stephen in Sacramento. During his life, he was very active in Our Lady of Sorrows Society in Thornton. He was an inventor of farm equipment and tools, as the need would arise. Later in his life, at the age of 85, he started a life -story journal. He will best be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Sparky. Mr. Amaro is survived by his three children, Alberta Miller of St. George, Utah, Allen Amaro of Redwood City, CA and Mona (Don) Dean of Thornton; grandson, Mike Amaro of San Francisco; sister, Tillie Moura of Antioch and three step-children, Alexis Hansen, Keith Lamport and Patty Young. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ann Amaro on October 25, 1983, second wife, Mary Jane Amaro on June 11, 2001 and brother, George Amaro. Friends are invited to visit at Lodi Funeral Home, Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. The Holy Rosary will be recited at Lodi Funeral Home on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Catholic Church of Saint Stephen, 5461 -44th Street, Sacramento. Committal will immediately follow at Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi. Memorial remembrances may be sent to Hospice of San Joaquin, 3888 Pacific Avenue, Stockton, CA 95204-1953, Our Lady of Sorrows Society, 8544 W. Oak, Thornton, CA 95686 or charity of donor's choice.
