Obituary of George Franklin Lerner

George Franklin Lerner, Sr., of Lodi passed away on September 7, 2006 at the age of 83 in Lodi. Mr. Lerner was born in Oroville, CA on April 18, 1923 to Frank and Rose Lerner. He married Alta Lorraine Charlton on February 28, 1944. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII, having been in the first Parachute Division and the 5th Marine Division. In 1957 he and his family moved to Lodi, where he has since resided. He had been employed by Tri-Valley Growers for 37 years, having retired as a cannery manager. He enjoyed making wind chimes and clocks. He loved to dance and enjoyed his trips to Jackson and Reno, but most importantly, he loved spending time with his family. He was a member of the V.F.W. and the 5th Marine Division Association. He was a devoted father and grandfather, and he will be so very dearly missed. Mr. Lerner is survived by his two sons, George (Carol) Lerner, Jr., of Linden and Gene (Sally) Lerner of Sanger; four grandchildren, Kyle (Jorja) Lerner, Lisa (John) Curlee, Mike( Mary) Lerner and Casey (Dan) White; 11 great-grandchildren, Katya, Joshua, Jordan, Jeremy, Makenna, Kirsten, Ian, Ashlee, Brooke, Thomas and Dylan; two brothers, Charles Lerner and Harold (Maryann) Lerner, both of Oroville; sister, Tina Phelps of Oroville and friend and companion, Faye Shirley. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alta Lorraine Lerner in 1993 and four brothers, Ernest, Willard, Percil and Raymond Lerner. Friends are invited to visit Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home. A chapel service will follow on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Lodi Funeral Home.
