Obituary of Claudie Gene Powers

Claudie Gene Powers of Lodi passed away in Lodi on September 13, 2006 at the age of 71. Mr. Powers was born in Crescent, OK on April 14, 1935 to Charles and Thelma Powers. In 1953 he married Shirley P. Gray. They moved to Monterey, California in 1960, finally settling in Lodi in 1966. He was self-employed as a mechanic and owner of Freeway Shell Station in Lodi. He retired in 1996. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing, particularly sturgeon. In the early 1990's he won a California State Fair Award in Folk Arts and Crafts for a wooden train that he crafted. He worked hard, and he played hard. Mr. Powers is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shirley Powers of Lodi; children, Mike Powers of Lodi, Terry (Michael) Stoddard of Lodi, Gayla Joy ( Kenny) Garman of Valley Springs, Cynthia Pettyjohn of Lodi and Dede (Eddie) Posada of Stockton; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one sister, Helen Murray of Oklahoma City, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Michael Stoddard, Jr., in 2004, brother, Jack Powers and sister, Charlene Mosher. Friends are invited to visit on Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Cherokee Memorial Park.
