Obituary of Millie Schneider

Millie Schneider of Lodi passed away Saturday, October 14, 2006, at the age of 75 years. Mrs. Schneider was born August 13, 1931, in Athboy, South Dakota to Ferdinand and Katherine Mehlhaff. At the age of four, her parents moved the family to Trail City, South Dakota where Millie finished the eighth grade. Her family relocated to Mobridge, South Dakota where Millie attended and graduated from high school in 1949. Millie married Donald Schneider in South Dakota on October 1, 1950 at the McLaughlin United Congregational Church of Christ. They made their home for two years in McLaughlin before relocating to the family farm in Mahto, South Dakota, living there until 1956 when relocating to Seattle, Washington. Mrs. Schneider worked at Henry House Meat Packing in Seattle for 7 ½ years. In 1966, Millie and Donald operated a delicatessen for 3 years until moving to Lodi, California in 1969. Millie worked for Lodi Unified School District as a cashier/baker for 21 years, retiring in 1992. After retiring, Millie returned to work at the United Congregational Church of Christ in Lodi until August, 1995. She then worked for the San Joaquin County Head Start program until 1998. Mrs. Schneider enjoyed an active life with family camping trips, cooking, music, bowling, collecting angels and hummingbirds, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and precious great grandchildren. She will be best remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, mostly for her caring and loving personality. She will be dearly missed. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Donald Schneider; one daughter, Fernanda Bender and husband, Gary, of Lodi; one son, Floran Schneider and wife, Pamela Schneider of Wallace; 2 brothers, Frederick P. Mehlhaff of Lodi, and Rev. Edwin Mehlhaff of Houston, Texas; 1 sister, Christine Reiger of Aberdeen, South Dakota; 2 grandchildren, Christian Schneider and wife Jennell of Lodi and Brian Schneider and wife Wendy of Acampo; and 5 great children, Jenna, Jacob, and Madison of Lodi and Sierra and Bryon of Acampo. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Christ Mehlhaff and Adolph Mehlhaff and 3 sisters, Frieda Geier, Ida Rempfer, and Tillie Krien. Family and friends are invited to the graveside service Thursday, October 19, 2006, at 10 a.m. at Cherokee Memorial Park Cemetery followed by a Memorial Service October 19, 2006, at 11 a.m. at the United Congregational Church of Christ at 701 S. Hutchins St., Lodi. Visitation will be held 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, October 17 & 18, 2006 at Lodi Funeral Home. Charitable donations may be made to the United Congregational Church of Christ in Lodi or the Lodi Memorial Hospital Foundation in Millie Schneider's memory.
