Roland Frederick passed away Friday, November 17, after bravely fighting cancer. He was 82. Born in Richmond, Virginia on September 9, 1924, he lived in several states during his lifetime, mostly in California. He was a Navy pilot from 1943-1947 and earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Oregon State University's Department of Food and Science and Technology in 1948. His career was with the Safeway Stores, where he spent 42 years. When he retired he was the Vice President of Brookside Division in the Western United States. At one time a member of the Board of Directors for Diablo Country Club, golf was one of his passions. Since moving to Woodbridge from Danville in early 1998, he was also a member and golfer at Woodbridge Country Club. He enjoyed making two holes-in-one during his years of golf. He leaves behind a daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Craig Kinser, two grandchildren, Laura Grace and Mason, as well as his Schatzeline for more than 30 years, Hildegard. Other friends and relatives include Hilda Bruce of Richmond, Virginia and Natalie Frederick of Lodi, and his extended family in Germany, where he traveled with Hildegard. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 28th at 10:00 a.m. at Lodi Funeral Home. There is no visitation, and committal is private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Roland's memory to Hospice of San Joaquin County by visiting www.hospicesj.ord or by mail at 3888 Pacific Ave., Stockton, CA 95204.
