Ann Wakefield, born Ann Markovich January 22, 1914, on a homestead near Hebron, N.D., to Theresa and Joseph Markovich died December 27, 2006, at the age of 92. Mrs. Wakefield moved to Lodi, at the age of nine, where her father worked as ranch foreman for Mr. Lawrence. She attended St. Anne's School and Lodi High School, while working at the Lodi Theater. On July 7, 1933, Ann married Irwin Wakefield. After rearing her sons, she worked at J.C. Penney and later, Holly Department Store. She enjoyed gardening, homemaking, helping her family, and her pets. As a young woman, she was an avid trout fisherman. She is a member of St. Anne's Church. Preceding her in death was her husband of 64 years, Irwin; a sister, Lena Madeline Krug; her parents; a niece, Anna Skell and a nephew, Frank Krug. Surviving Ann are her sons Harold (Bud) and his wife, Patricia and Richard and his wife Janice; a sister, Marie Cross and husband, Albert; one grandson, Don Blackwell and one great-grandson, Terry Blackwell; nieces, Victoria Mettler, Maria Niedan and Elizabeth Kumley. Friends are invited to visit Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Cherokee Memorial Park. Memorial remembrances may be made to a charity of donor's choice.
