Esther Helwig, age 76 of Lodi, California, formerly of Goodrich, North Dakota died March 14, 2007. She was born on November 16, 1930. Mrs. Helwig went to school in Goodrich, North Dakota. She married Melvin Helwig on August 27, 1948. She worked for a company that produced tax forms in Lodi for ten years before becoming self-employed with her husband, operating Lodi Ambulance Service and Lodi Sick Room Supply from 1964-1979. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, reading, shopping, collecting dolls, attending car shows with her husband and playing cards with friends. Her greatest love, however, was taking care of her family, and she will be so dearly missed. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church and Dakota Club. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Melvin Helwig of Lodi; one son, Gary and wife, Terry Helwig of Lockeford; two daughters, Connie Helwig of Citrus Heights and Debra and husband, John Pilcher of Woodbridge; four grandchildren, Stephanie and Brian Clayworth of Roseville, Jennie and Mark Durham of Galt, Jason and Julie Pilcher of Fair Oaks and Wendy and Brian Schneider of Lodi; eight great-grandchildren, Cody, Travis, Bryon, Sierra, Bradon, Austin, Allyssa and Danielle; three sisters, Bertha Frey of Lodi, Leona and Bill Cronin of Lodi and Emma Mantz of Sparks, NV; one brother, Reuben Fleck of Lodi. She was preceded in death by eight brothers and five sisters. Friends are invited to visit on Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home. A chapel service with be held on Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home with committal to immediately follow. Memorial contributions may be to Temple Baptist Church Building Fund, 801 S. Lower Sacramento Road, Lodi, CA 95242.
