Obituary of Hilda Beatrice Wacker Unterseher

Hilda Beatrice Wacker Unterseher of Lodi passed away on May 17, 2007 following an intense struggle with peritoneal cancer for twenty months. Hilda succumbed at the age of 78. She was born January 5, 1929. When five years old, Hilda and her family moved from Montana to Lodi, where she attended local schools and graduated from Lodi Academy in 1947. She married Calvin Unterseher on July 27, 1947. A scrupulous, multitalented worker, Hilda clerked in grocery stores as a teen. She worked as a medical transcriber, bookkeeper, and secretary in several doctors' offices. She was the Office Manager of Buchanan's Hospital in Lodi, accountant at Newbury Park Academy, registrar at Hawaiian Mission Academy, and secretary/bookkeeper at Lodi SDA Elementary School. Although her vocation received due attention, Hilda's family came first--an assignment completed to the minutest detail with kind, equitable attention, love, and devotion. Whether camping, water skiing, or playing table games, Hilda was an enthusiastic participant, but she played to win! She thoroughly enjoyed all of her family, but especially her grandchildren. Hilda is survived by her husband of 59 years, Calvin Unterseher; children: Charleen (Unterseher) Winter of Palm Springs, CA and Gary (Brenda) Unterseher of Lodi; two grandchildren: Shannon (Unterseher) Hemans of Stockton, and Blair Unterseher of Lodi; three sisters; Ruth Ensminger, Elda Ensminger, and Arta Corona of Lodi; a brother, Leo Wacker of St. Louis, MO; many relatives and a host of friends. A committed Christian, Hilda loved and served her Lord and her church faithfully from childhood; she can say with the apostle Paul, "I have fought a good fight; I have finished the race; henceforth, is laid up for me a crown of righteousness." A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 2, 2007, at 4:00 p.m. in the Fairmont SDA Church, 730 S. Fairmont Ave., Lodi, CA. Committal will be private at Cherokee Memorial Park. The Lodi Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hilda Unterseher Memorial Fund, either to Lodi SDA Elementary School, 1240 S. Central Ave., Lodi, CA 96240 or to Lodi Academy, 1230 S. Central Avenue, Lodi, CA 95240.
