Virginia Bechtel Elste of Acampo, California, a long-time resident of Arlington Heights, Illinois, passed away in Lodi, California at the age of 91. Mrs. Elste was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 7, 1915 to Charles Leonard and Agnes Bechtel. She lived in Chicago until 1953 when she moved with her family to Arlington Heights. She worked for Weber Marketing Systems as an accountant for at least twenty years before retiring. In 1980, she moved to Largo, Florida, residing there until her move to Acampo, California in 2000. Mrs. Elste enjoyed traveling, attending the theater and spending time with her family at the Illinois Turner Camp for many years. She treasured her closely-knit family; they were the most important part of her life. She was a member of the Eastern Star, a lifelong member of the American Turners-Northwest Chicago and a charter member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Arlington Heights. She is survived by two sons, Charles (Connie) Elste of Acampo, California and Craig (Kathy) Elste of Atlanta, Georgia; five grandchildren, Kimberly (Jonathan) Haag, Annette Wells, Ed (Amy) Elste, Jennifer ( Scott ) Self and Heather (Clint) Cox; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Charlene Paupa of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Jacqueline (John) Bloom of Rolling Meadows, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Elste and son, Gary Elste. Memorial services will be held September 1, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Committal will take place at Memory Gardens in Arlington Heights.
