Obituary of Mary Catherine Barton

Mary Catherine Barton of Stockton, a long-time resident of Sonora, passed away in Stockton on August 27, 2007 at the age of 85. Mrs. Barton was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on December 26, 1921 to George and Ella Latimer Alf. She earned her A.A. Degree and was a computer programming analyst. She worked for Gallo Winery for a number of years, retiring in 1987. Mrs. Barton lived in Sonora from 1980 through 2005 at which time she and her husband moved to Stockton. She enjoyed cooking, square dancing, camping and traveling, but more importantly, she loved her family and was very much a "family person". She is survived by her husband, Tom Barton of Stockton; two children, Daniel (Jeanne Nash) Unger of Sonora and Pamela (William) Johns of Stockton; two step-children, Bonnie (Dan) Buckman of Sonora and Thomas K. Barton of Indiana; nine grandchildren, Erika Halstead, Brien Halstead, Jason Johns, William Johns, Jr., Kirk T. Barton, Stefanie Campbell, John Hollis, Liana Buckman, Jody L. Unger and fifteen great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at O'Connor Woods, St., Catherine's Chapel, 3400 Wagner Heights Road, Stockton, CA 95209 on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. There is no visitation, and committal will be private. Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Barton's name to Alzheimer's Aid Society of Northern California, P.O. Box 1824, Sacramento, CA 95812.
