Obituary of Maria Jo Martins

Maria Jo Martins of Elk Grove, formerly of Galt, passed away in Galt on August 27, 2007 at the age of 87. Mrs. Martins was born in San Miguel, Azores on April 27, 1920. In 1947, she married John Felix Martins. They came to the United States in 1979, settling in Galt. She lived there until 1994 when she moved to Elk Grove. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, and she was an excellent homemaker. Mrs. Martins was very devoted to her family; and she will be so dearly missed. She will best be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of St. Christopher's Catholic Church in Galt and Our Lady of Fatima in Thornton. She is survived by her son, Antonio (Eria) Martins of Galt; daughter, Natalia Martins of Modesto; son-in-law, Frank Pires of Elk Grove; eight grandchildren, Maria Toste, Adriana Melo, Johnny Rocha, Sandra Melo, Jennifer Xavier, Michael Rocha, Jason Pires and Danny Rocha; four great-grandchildren, Jordan, Isaac, Masen and Adrian. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Felix Martins; three daughters, Gloria Martins, Sorraccao Martins and Isabel Maria Pires; granddaughter, Brittney Pires; one sister, Gloria and two brothers, Joao and Augusto. Friends are invited to visit Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Christopher's Catholic Church. Committal will immediately follow at Galt Cemetery.
