Walter Dittus, 96, of Lodi passed away at Fairmont Rehab on August 29, 2007. He was born August 21, 1911 on a farm between Glen Ullin and Hebron in North Dakota. He graduated from Hebron High School and attended Dickinson State Teachers College. He served in WWII in the 11th Armored Division from 1942 until 1946. He married Lorraine Hoffman on June 15, 1949 and moved to Eugene, Oregon. He was in partnership with Wilson Hardware for thirteen years. The family then moved to Lodi, California in 1962. He was in the hardware business most of his life and retired from Ace Hardware in 1976. He was a beloved husband for 58 years. His is survived by his wife, Lorraine Dittus of Lodi; two daughters, Corinne and husband Gerald McLean of Galt and Carol and husband Robert Ellis of Escalon; five grandchildren, Jennifer McLean of Galt, Jeremy McLean of Sacramento, John McLean of Galt, Mitch Ellis and wife Heather of Oakdale, Haley Ellis of Chico; great-grandchild, Cody McLean and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by six brothers and four sisters. Friends are invited to visit Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home. A chapel service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. Committal will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Walter's name to Ebenezer Memorial Fund, 825 South Central, Lodi, CA 95240.
