Obituary of John Joseph Carmos

John Joseph Carmos of Lodi passed away in Lodi on October 17, 2007 at the age of 99. Mr. Carmos was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts on May 7, 1908 to Amoncio and Philomina Carmos. He lived in New Bedford for twenty-two years. He married Rose on August 20, 1929 in New Bedford. They moved to Boston, Massachusetts where he lived until 2002 at which time he moved to Lodi. He attended chef school and was employed as a chef for over 75 years. He worked for the Coconut Grove in Boston and later for the Jesuit Priests in Boston. He was a hard worker who also enjoyed plumbing, sharing stories with his family, playing the accordion, dancing and being with animals, especially dogs. He was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church. Mr. Carmos was a very beloved and vibrant father and grandfather, and he will be missed. He is survived by his three children, Marie Smalley of Lodi, Joan (Guy) Willson of Moore, Montana and David Carmos of La Jolla, California; nine grandchildren, Caryl, John, Joanne, Susan, Gwynne, Leslie, David, Becky and April; nineteen great-grandchildren and sixteen great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Carmos; daughter, Diane Carmos; great-granddaughter, Danielle Arment; two sisters, and seven brothers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in New Bedford, MA at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with committal at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in New Bedford. Services in Lodi were private.
