Obituary of Hellen Lorene McManus

Helen Lorene McManus of Lodi, a long-time resident of Modesto, passed away on November 25, 2007 at the age of 93. Mrs. McManus was born in College Springs, Iowa on May 10, 1914 to John Henry and Grace Merle Luhr. When she was very young, her family moved to Fort Morgan, Colorado where she grew up. She graduated from nursing school in Denver. She married David James McManus in 1940. Mrs. McManus moved to Southern California first and then moved to Modesto in 1948. She worked at both Doctor's Hospital and Modesto City Hospital as a registered nurse. She retired after 40 years of nursing. In her later years, she lived in Santa Rosa as well as Loomis and Ione. She enjoyed traveling to Tahoe, cooking and sewing. Mrs. McManus is survived by her three children, Jean (Joseph) McAnulty of Santa Rosa, John (Joan) McManus of Vista and Michael (Jan) McManus of Ione; nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David James McManus in 1999; brother, Roland Luhr; two sisters, Estella Lango and Beryl Oldemeyer. Committal is private.
