Obituary of Carmen Montañez Posas
Maria del Carmen Montañez- Posas, 64, of Galt passed away on May 27, 2024.
She was known to many as just Carmen, and was born in Zináparo, Michoacán, México on October 24, 1959, to Alfredo Montañez and Beatriz Posas.
Carmen was brought to the United States by her parents in the year 1966 at the young age of 6, she was about to turn 7.
She grew up as a daughter of migrant farm workers and often moved with the season. Every season change, Carmen would go from farm camp to farm camp, moving schools every time. Carmen and her family would travel up and down the western coastal states of Washington, Oregon, and California to work the fields.
It wasn’t until the year 1980, that Carmen and her family would establish roots in Galt, CA and left the fields to start work at Pacific Coast Producers cannery.
In the late 1980s Carmen met the man she would marry and have children with. Carmen married Jorge Torres Aviña in 1988 and welcomed their first-born, their daughter Guadalupe Torres, in 1991. In 1992 they then had their son Jorge Torres.
Fate would later separate Carmen and Jorge, but the love they once had would always be present in their two children.
Carmen worked endlessly and with the countless support and love of her parents and sister Beatrice Montañez. She moved forward raising her two children as best she could.
Carmen enjoyed watching novelas, movies, finding new places to eat, going to the casino, making flour tortillas, playing checkers, and drinking her favorite soda, Pepsi, always accompanied by a “little snack”, she would say. Carmen enjoyed laughing and driving to new
places, making new memories. She always helped her family and friends in need, even when she was also the one in need.
Carmen was a very hard-working woman. She upheld her work ethic and took pride in her growth from leaving the hot, sometimes cold, and wet fields to finally having a job indoors at the cannery. Unfortunately, Carmen gained her wings not even a year after retirement.
Carmen is survived by her two children Guadalupe and Jorge Torres.
Carmen was proceeded in death by her parents and her husband.
