Obituary of Charles Clinton Mettler
Charles Clinton Mettler, lifelong resident of Lodi, CA passed away peacefully on March 30, 2024 at the age of 95. He was born October 29, 1928 to parents Henry F. and Erna Irene Mettler
Charlie, as he was fondly known to his friends, graduated from Lodi High School after which he enlisted in the United States Army. It was while serving in England that Charlie met Joice Hulse, the woman that would become the love of his life and devoted companion for the remainder of her life. Upon returning to California, Charlie worked as a farmer for the next 50+ years. Later in life, Charlie and Joice bought the Lodi Avenue Florist. Charlie was a long time parishoner of Zion Reformed Church in Lodi before becoming a member of Grace Presbyterian Church. Charlie’s first passion was always his family although he thoroughly enjoyed music, fishing and sports.
Charlie is preceded in death by his parents and most of his many siblings (brothers Raymond, Irvine, Hubert, Vernon, Rich, Stanley, Lloyd; sisters Laura and Viola), son-in-law Rodney Mastel, and devoted wife Joice. He is survived by his sister Jeannie Culbertson, children Deborah Scott and Brian Mettler and their spouses George Scott and Jackie Dent, his grandchildren Brianna Mastel and Colin Mettler, his great-grandson Aiden Nelson and his health care provider and companion Adrianna Acosta. And many more family and friends too numerous to list here.
A memorial service will be held on 5 April 2024 at Grace Presbyterian Church at 1:00pm. The service will be followed with a reception at the church. There will be no visitation and final committal will be private at Lodi’s East Pine Cemetery next to his beloved Joice.
