Obituary of Norbert Prosper Olivera
Febuary 19, 1937 - March 1, 2024 Norbert ("Norbie") Olivera, 87, of Clements California went home to the Lord on Friday, March 1, 2024. He passed away suddenly and of natural causes. Norbie was born to Prosper W. Olivera and Elaine Gehringer Olivera in Concord, CA. After graduating from high school, he attended California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, CA and graduated with a degree in Animal Science with an Animal Husbandry concentration. He then worked at the W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Center at Cal Poly Pomona before moving to Clements in 1961 to help his father who had recently purchased ranches in Clements and Wallace. While Norbie may have spent his early years growing sheep along side his father, his true passion in life became raising cattle. In addition to being a rancher, Norbie enjoyed being a cattle buyer for Producers Livestock and Duane Martin Livestock. The latter association enabled he and his wife, Laurel, to travel to several western states where they made many friends in the beef industry. He served as the Chairman of the Clements Stampede back in the day and was honored to be the San Joaquin-Stanislaus Cattlemen's Association's Cattleman of the Year in 2000. Norbie was a devoted father. He taught his children to believe in Jesus Christ, to work hard and to live a life of integrity. He had many lifelong friends and incredible neighbors. We will all miss him. Norbie was preceded in death by his parents, Aunt Clotilda (who helped to raise him when his mother passed away when he was an infant), his new mother Honor, sister Lois and brother by marriage Frank. He is survived by his wife Laurel Steely-Olivera, daughter Terri (Ed), children by marriage Tamara, Roger (Carrie), Shannon (Anjie) and Kelli. A memorial service will be held at St. Joachim Catholic Church in Lockford, CA on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at 11:00 AM. Donations may be made to the charity of choice.
