Obituary of Nickolas Hercules Spanos
Nickolas Hercules Spanos Jr., age 86 of Lodi, CA died on November 10, 2023 at Lodi Memorial Hospital, following a sudden illness. On February 20, 1937, he was born in Stockton County Hospital, the son of the late Nickolas Spanos Sr. and Stella Spanos. He grew up in Lockeford, CA. Nickolas was the lead trumpet in the Lodi High School Marching Band. He loved snow skiing, hunting for elk, deer, moose, and birds in Montana, Idaho, New Mexico, Nevada, and Canada. On August 26, 1972 he married Dolores Buttress at the Carson City Chapel, together they shared 51 years.
Nickolas was a farmer, a steel worker, chemist, and finally a pharmacist and business owner. He owned and started three pharmacies including; Fair Oaks Pharmacy in Stockton, Lakewood Drugs in Lodi, and Delta Pharmacy in Rio Vista. He started these businesses with his best friend and partner Carl Fink, from beginning to end. Nickolas was the president of Lodi Lions Club, Member of NRA, Ducks Unlimited, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Quails Unlimited, Lodi District Grape Growers Association, and attended St. Basil's Greek Orthodox Church in Stockton. He was a philanthropist helping many people, donating time and money to many causes and a caring husband, father, and son.
Nickolas was preceded in death by his son Christopher Spanos, his father Nickolas Spanos Sr., his mother Stella Spanos, sister Cecilia Martin, and gram Pauline Kras. He is survived by his wife, Dolores Spanos; son, Nickolas Spanos III; grandchildren, Nickolas Spanos IV and Persephone Spanos; and brother, George Spanos of Salmon, Idaho.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 28th from 4:00 to 6:00 pm with a Trisagion beginning at 6:00 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home, 725 S. Fairmont Ave., in Lodi. The Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, Nov. 29th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Basil's Greek Orthodox Church, 920 W March Ln, in Stockton, followed by burial at Cherokee Memorial Park, Hwy 99 and Harney Ln., in Lodi. A reception will follow at the Lodi Moose Lodge 3824 E. Woodbridge Rd. Acampo, CA 95220.
