Obituary of Alfredo S Montanez
Alfredo Montañez Salgado, 91, of Galt passed away on August 31, 2023.
He was born in El Ojo de Agua, Michoacán, México on March 5, 1932, to Genaro Montañez and
Ester Salgado.
Alfredo married the love of his life, Beatriz, in 1952 to whom he was happily married for 66
years before her passing in 2018.
He moved to California with his wife and six children in the year 1966. They were migrant
farmworkers often moving with the season. His seventh child was born in the year 1970, and it
wasn’t until 1980 Alfredo and his family decided to settle in Galt, CA.
In his later years Alfredo was working in irrigation in San Joaquin County and retired at the age
of 77. After retiring he would occasionally get bored around the house and would pick up shifts
in the fields or packaging companies. Alfredo enjoyed long walks, recycling, gardening, drinking
his favorite beer (Corona), taking naps on the grass, going to the casinos, and spending time with
his family. He was always finding humor in things and making serious situations more
lighthearted.
Alfredo is survived by his seven children: Alicia, Jose, Ramon, Carmen, Alfredo Jr., Jesus, and
Beatrice Montañez; twenty-four grandchildren: Norma, Carlos, Jimmy, Aaron, Kassandra, Jose
Jr., Luis Alberto, Julie, Sergio, Erika, Ramon Jr., Maribel, Jessica, Ulysses, Lupita T., Jorge,
Diego, Vanessa, Armando, Jesus Jr., Janet, Cesar, Fernando, and Lupita M.; thirty-one great-
grandchildren: Salvador, Alicia, Giselle, Giovanna, Frankie, Lucas, Mateo, Aaron Jr., Eliana,
Pedro, Emiliano, Benjamin, Damian, Jesse, Mariah, Luis Angel, Santos, Jesus, Emma, Liliana,
Anthony, Daisy, Abel, Jasmin, Ramon Jr., Ismael, Ariel, Orlando Jr., Priscilla, Selena, and
Sergio; four siblings Crespin, Ernesto, Lola, and Ruben Montañez; and his many nieces and
nephews.
