Obituary of Violet Hilscher
Violet “Vi” Hilscher passed away in her home on May 23, 2023, surrounded by loved ones. She was born October 6, 1929, in Fredonia, North Dakota, the youngest of four children. She attended country schools, graduated high school in 1947, and in August of that year married her soulmate, Melvin Hilscher. They were married nearly 71 years before his passing in 2018. Vi grew up on a farm and then farmed 5 years with Mel before moving to Lodi in 1952 with their daughter, Darlene. In the years that followed, she worked for several businesses, retiring from Darwin Farms after 22 years in 1993. Vi is preceded in death by her husband Melvin, her mother, Sophia Keszler, father, David Heller, stepfather, Jacob Keszler, brothers Clarence Heller and Ted Heller, and sister, Gertrude Hehr. Violet is survived by her daughter, Darlene Gormsen (Pete), grandchildren:
Chris Gormsen (Liz), Kara Latteri (Joel) and Alex Gormsen, (Holly) and 9 great- grandchildren: Julius, Noah, Jack, Charlie, and Ben Latteri; Luke, Amelia, and Nora Gormsen; and Violet Gormsen.
Vi was devoted to her family and friends, always willing to help and care for those in need.
Vi enjoyed being outside, even the days working on the farm. “Camping” was a favorite pastime and then later traveling with the motor home spending time with their friends
Her hobbies included crafts and tending to the plants and flowers inside the house and out in the yard.
Violet had a strong Christian faith and was a member of Big Valley Church in Lodi.
