Obituary of Robert S. Dennison
Robert S. Dennison, age 86, of Galt, CA passed away peacefully with family by his side after a long illness. He was born in 1936 in Maine to Violet and O'Dell Dennison. He was the third of four children. When his family moved him to Upstate New York as a teenager, he found his love and was married to his wife, Jessie, in 1958. He was a member of the Army Reserve from 1954 to 1962. They had four children in New York before escaping the snowy winters to California. His work as a telephone lineman allowed him to discover that California winters had a lot of rain, creating a great deal of overtime.
Born on a tree plantation in Maine, Robert Dennison was a lifelong lover of nature and outdoor pursuits. This led to many family camping trips and his becoming a Scout Master, where he was able to share his knowledge with the next generation. He felt that doing the right thing, sharing good fortune, and helping those in need, were all important pursuits. He did this largely through his work as a Boy Scout Master, as a Mason, and a Moose. He loved music, especially Bluegrass. He played the dobro and attended many Bluegrass festivals, where he was known as 'Flattop Bob'. He enjoyed working with his hands, building furniture and other things from wood, tinkering on his vehicles, and making delicious fruit wine. He was able to pass on much of this knowledge to his children. He was great at making duck noises, to the delight (and confusion) of his grandchildren.
Robert was predeceased by his parents, siblings, and one grandchild. He is survived by his wife Jessie; his children Tammy, John, Mitchell, and Nancy; his grandchildren Andrew, Jenna, and Emily; his many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. A family memorial is being planned. Rest well, Papa, and give Nicole a hug. "Good and trustworthy servant, you have done well." (Matthew 25:23)
