Obituary of Charles E. Stine
Charles E. Stine, age 98 passed away in the early morning hours of March 12, in
Galt CA
Charles was born in Lancaster County, PA on June 28, 1924 to a family of 8
children. Charles was the son of Walter and Minnie Stine. He met Grace when he
was 19 and she 18. Charles said that he was looking for a Christian lady that
would be a good mother for their eventual children Margaret, Susan, and Sandra.
Charles and Grace married in August 1942 . Charles was always adventurous and
moved out of Pennsylvania to find his fortune. His first stop was Denver CO, then
Phoenix AZ, and eventually, Sacramento CA.
Charles made his living selling insurance and then real estate. With only an 8th
grade education and Grace by his side, they successfully ran the insurance and
real estate business together. Charles retired in Sacramento in the late 1980’s and
began his fulltime career exploring the mountains, camping, and almost every
hobby associated with the outdoors. Also, spending lots of time with his
grandchildren and great grandchildren. And of course, summers at Snowflower
with his “Amazing Grace!” Charles eventually could not live alone and moved in
with his grandson Jon McLarty and his family for several years.
Charles was preceded in death by his daughter, Margaret McLarty in 2000. He is
survived by his wife of 79 years, Grace Stine, two daughters, Susan Lepp, Sandy
Patatucci, 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 6 great great
grandchildren. Charles was always the gentleman and said without exception,
“This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!”
Charles will be missed by his extensive family.
Visitation will be on Thursday March 23rd, from 12:30 - 4:00 and a Funeral
Service will be Friday March 24 th at 10:00 at Lodi Funeral Home. Interment will
follow at Cherokee Memorial Park, Lodi, CA.
