Obituary of George Arthur Gyles

George Arthur Gyles born July 10, 1944, sadly died Saturday, February 11, 2023 at San Joaquin General Hospital.

George was born and raised in Stockton. He was brought home from the hospital to what was referred to as the Acre, where he lived with his parents George and Lena Gyles and seven siblings. He was the youngest of eight children. George was known as Junior to family and friends. He remained on the Acre his entire life.

George is preceded in death by his parents George and Lena Gyles, brothers Wallace Gyles, Gilbert Gyles, sisters Lena Bell Zukle, Georgia Ratcliff, Wanda Brown, and Glady Mears.

He is survived by his companion of 44 years Joanna Swisher, children George Gyles IV (Virginia), Sally Hall (Manteca), stepchildren Stacy Swisher (Stockton), Chuck Swisher (Pine Grove), Tim Swisher (Tennessee), a sister Mary Mc Cafferty and 10 grandchildren. 

He was known as Papa to his grandchildren. He was loved dearly and he loved them including his nieces and nephews and friends.

He enjoyed family reunions where everyone gathered on the Acre. He would work for days trying to get everything perfect. He enjoyed camping and windsurfing. When the children were younger he wanted to take them everywhere. He enjoyed his grandchildren. He enjoyed his monthly lunches with his family and friends. When he had friends he had friends for life. He was always ready to help anyone that needed him. He enjoyed being needed.

Funeral Services will be held at Lodi Funeral Home, 725 S Fairmont Ave, Lodi, CA 95240 on Thursday, February 23rd at 11:00 AM with burial at Farmington Cemetery to follow.
