Obituary of Dagobert O Schmidt
Dagobert Schmidt was born on February 5, 1931 in Gross-Neudorf, West Prussia and
passed away peacefully in his sleep at home in Lodi, CA on August 23, 2022 at 91 years
of age. He immigrated to Lodi with his family in 1952 and was drafted the following year
into the US Army. His fiancé, Magdalene, followed him from Germany and they were
married in Lodi on Christmas Day. He was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia and after
his honorable discharge, they settled in Lodi and soon built their own home.
Dagobert was an Engineer and Master Machinist, working for Super Mold Corporation
for 18 years. In 1971, Dagobert and Magdalene started their own business, later adding
an aluminum foundry and becoming “Schmidt’s Grinding & Mfg, Prima-Cast”.
Eventually they built their own building. Here he designed, manufactured and repaired
machinery for various industries as well as produced a wide range of parts. He was an
especially creative and innovative designer, who could turn verbal ideas into specialty
equipment and re-design machines to meet the needs of his clients. At the age of 74, he
retired to spend more time with his loving family.
Dagobert was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Lodi for 70 years. He was an
avid and skilled outdoorsman; especially enjoying spending time in the mountains while
hunting, fishing, camping and boating.
He was a loving and supportive father and very proud of his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Magdalene Schmidt; his children Susanne Schmidt
and Dr. Norman (wife Lesa) Schmidt; his grandchildren Alexander (wife Kelly) Schmidt
and Dr. Amanda (husband Kevin) Keller and great-grandson Charles Keller.
