Dear Lorrie, I was absolutely shocked to hear the Denny had passed away. Denny was one of my close friends while stationed in Petaluma, CA. He was truly one of a kind. Denny was a fierce competitor, a fighter, an athlete, and yet a kind, soft spoken individual. A special guy. Ya, i was another one who didn't particularly like to catch Denny's throw from the outfield. Ouch!! Time has marched by for me since retiring in 96', and I hear of shipmates passing away all the time. This one stings. I had actually recently dreamed to taking a trip and visiting the base at Two Rock, and visiting you guys. Denny, i love you man, you were an awesome person. I was just reading The Chief magazine and saw the sickening news about my friend, neighbor, co-worker, car pooler and drinking buddy (sorry about the chipped tooth buddy). We pretty much lost touch when I retired from the Coast Guard in '95. Over the years I often thought of Denny, Lorrie and Abby and the Good Ole Days. Denny and I were Section Leaders at the new PERSRU at Coast Guard Government Island, Alameda, CA. Denny and Lorrie hosted a wonderfully huge going away party for my wife Juana and I when we transferred from Alameda to USCGC RESOLUTE in Astoria, OR. They also hosted a wonderful bar-b-q after our son Stacy's baptism in Novato, CA. Unfortunately, Juana passed away in November 1995 from ovarian cancer. There are lots of memories and stories I could relate about Denny, but it will only bring more tears to my eyes. Though I have lost many a classmate and former shipmates, this loss is particularly painful. Denny and Lorrie were/are great people. To Lorrie, I am so sorry for your loss. I am also so sorry I did not stay in touch with you guys. I will notify Stu Link of this sad, sad news. If ever you want to talk, I am at CGJACKRABBIT95@gmail.com. Denny is home with God now.....and as such, God and Denny will forever be watching over Lorrie and all of the family. Take care pal. I love you man. Cliff Hamer

Rest In Peace Denny! I remember our time stationed together in Alameda, CA. We played basketball, softball, and flag football together. Hell of an outside shot, and heck of an arm in softball. Had to be on my toes and concentrating with you threw a ball from the outfield. Whew!

What a great tribute! Denny’s smile always brightened the neighbor of Perryman/Lucas Road. Whether it was a quick wave as he passed by in the car (or postal Jeep) or a stop and talk on the front lawn. Denny was always willing to give you his time for a catch up chat. He will definitely be missed.
